Showa Kinen Park is a very popular destination to visit during spring and autumn. Since it is spring already, AnakJajan decided to share with you our spring memories at Showa Kinen Park – Tachikawa Tokyo.
AnakJajan went there in early May 2014 which was already too late for sakura at Showa Kinen. The reason AnakJajan decided to visit this park is because they were having Flower Festival where they feature wide range of seasonal flowers such as tulip and poppy flowers.
Showa Kinen Park is located at Tachikawa, around 30 minutes by train from Shinjuku station. The park is so large they have several gate entrance. AnakJajan entered Tachikawa Gate that is located right across Tachikawa Station.
Fyi, if you are planning to visit Tokyo in late April/ early May, I think you still can catch some late bloom Sakura just like us at Shinjuku Gyoen park, you can read the detailed info about Shinjuku Gyoen on our Cherry Blossoms Diary post.
Visiting this park early is highly recommended because Showa Kinen park is absolutely huge!! Trust me!! And also they close early (5pm or 4.30 pm in Nov). AnakJajan didn’t realized that the park is that huge, we went there in the afternoon around 2pm after strolling around Roppongi area and had an amazing quality beef dish at Matsurokuya, we only had 3 hours left before the closing time to explore this park and didn’t manage to explore every area.
As you can see from the picture above, that is just the entrance at Tachikawa gate full of Gingo trees that will look amazing during autumn. That’s why I recommend you to give yourself a full or half day to explore this entire park. They devided the park into 5 main zones, you can walk around or you can also rent bicycles for 410 yen (adult)/ 260 yen (children) for 3 hours at Tachikawa Gate, Nishi Tachikawa Gate and Sunagawa Gate.
Inside Showa Kinen Park you can find variety of themed gardens and woods, you can also find several food stalls, cafes or restaurants inside.
There’s this huge lake in the middle of park where you can rent pedal boat or row boat for 700 Yen (2 people 30 minutes). We saw many visitors enjoy having picnic under the the trees. Don’t forget to get an ekibento at Tachikawa station and have a great picnic there.
Overall even though AnakJajan only had 3 hours to explore Showa Kinen, we enjoyed every single moment. Walking around through the garden while enjoying the beautiful flower scenery just made our afternoon spent well. Will definitely visit this park again someday, maybe during autumn season :)
