Shinjuku Gyoen

Shinjuku Gyoen is one of the largest and popular park at Tokyo. It is also one of the best places to see Cherry Blossoms during spring season at Tokyo because it has more than 400 cherry trees with different varieties.

Located in the middle of the busy city life of Shinjuku, surprisingly the atmosphere at Shinjuku Gyoen is really relaxing and soothing and lucky us the weather on that day also perfect.

One important thing you need to know is that Shinjuku Gyoen has many early and late blooming cherry trees. I’m excited knowing that there might be a possibility for me to see a lil bit of late bloom cherry blossom there because we couldn’t go to Tokyo during its peak blooming season late March – early April. That’s why I scheduled our itinerary to visit this park on our first day at Tokyo (end of April 2014).

Lucky us, just like the information I read, we manage to found some cherry trees that are still blossoming, especially this huge tree near Japanese Landscape with plentiful of pink sakura flowers on the tree.

There are some restaurants and tea house inside this park too. You can also sit at the rest area facing the Japanese Landscape while enjoying hot or cold drink from vending machines.

Overall, Shinjuku Gyoen is the perfect relaxing escape from busy urban city life. The landscape is amazing and lovely I wish we have one park like this in Jakarta. Shinjuku Gyoen also is a great choice to enjoy cherry blossom during its peak season, even better because it has early and late blooming sakura too. So if you couldn’t make it during cherry blossom peak season just like us, you might be still able to catch a glimpse of cherry blossom there.
